This is the second in a three-part “Underpainting Series” featuring Vitaliy Shtanko, Ukranian artist based in Florence and a Principal Instructor of Advanced Painting at FAA.

In Pt. 2 of this series, Vitaliy reinforces the drawing of the painting by mapping in compressed values of shadow and light, he models structural planes using limited/compressed mid-tones, and then focuses on edge quality to increase the illusion of depth.
