Application Procedures
After submission of the online application form, candidates will be selected who demonstrate a clear commitment to learning traditional methodologies, as reflected in their personal statements and supported by artwork that shows a strong interest in figurative realism.
Applicants must present:
- Transcript
- One letter of reference
- Resume or CV
- Personal statement
- Images (in the form of low-resolution jpgs) of 10-20 artworks produced in the last 3 years. At least 5 images should represent figurative art.
With regard to the portfolio of 10-20 images of artwork produced in the last 3 years, the MA faculty will look for a minimum level of technical skill. Candidates who are accepted will have demonstrated the required proficiencies to undertake the Academy’s MA program.
To be admitted to FAA’s Master of Arts (MA) program in Studio Art, candidates must have earned a Bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 GPA or a diploma from an established three-year academy like The Florence Academy of Art. The Bachelor’s degree must have been awarded from an institution accredited by an appropriate regional accrediting body. No transfer credits will be accepted.
English Language Requirements (For all applicants whose first language is not English)
Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate sufficient proficiency in English to undertake graduate-level study. Evidence of English language competence may be provided through one of the following standardised tests or an equivalent measure of proficiency:
TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 80–100
IELTS Academic: Minimum score of 6.5–7.0
PTE Academic: Minimum score of 53–59

Required Application Materials
- Transcripts
Submit an official final undergraduate transcript. If currently enrolled, official in-progress transcripts may be sent. Transcripts may be sent electronically to transcript.ma@florenceacademyofart.edu or mailed to: The Florence Academy of Art, Via Aretina 293, 50136 Florence, Italy
Official transcripts must come directly from the institution. We cannot accept .pdf files. - Resume or CV
Submit an outline of your educational, professional, and work-related experiences. - Letter of Recommendation
Submit one Letter of Recommendation from previous instructors, practicing artists, or college administrators. - Personal Statement
Submit a 300-500 word Personal Statement. - Portfolio
Submit a portfolio of ten (10) to twenty (20) images along with an inventory list of works in the order they appear. Include the title, medium, dimensions, and date of completion for each piece. Your portfolio ideally will include recent (3 years) images. - (For all applicants whose first language is not English)
Demonstrate sufficient proficiency in English as indicated above

Admissions Notification
