About
this course
General Description
With Florence as its backdrop, the fall landscape painting course brings students to the squares, gardens and surrounding hillsides of one of the world’s most picturesque and beautiful cities. The academy’s expert instructors guide students through the concepts and process of landscape painting from life. In the morning, weather permitting, students paint outdoors on site.
In the afternoon the group will do a series of master copies at FAA’s main campus. These exercises help students deepen their understanding of the techniques and concepts they will be working ‘en plein-air’.
Painting 1 – 3 days in each location, students learn to observe and record directly from nature: working with linear and atmospheric perspective to produce a convincing sense of the landscape’s structural rhythms and design. They learn how to select a motif and create a composition, and are introduced to basic information about the plein-air oil painting process: organizing the palette, finding and mixing color values, and ways of applying paint.
Beginning – Intermediate – Advanced levels welcome.
Maximum enrollment 12 students.
