About

Valentina Zlatarova graduated from the FAA’s Sculpture program in 2007 and works in a variety of materials to produce her sculptures: clay, bronze, concrete and plaster.

We asked her to tell us about her favorite material to work with so, in this collaboration filmed remotely, Valentina talks in detail about plaster.
This natural and essential material to the sculptor’s craft is often underrated, as it is usually known for its more practical use in processes like mould making.

Thanks to Valentina’s experience, and to the influence of sculptors from the past like August Rodin and Antoine Bourdelle, Valentina explores the versatile qualities of this material, and teaches us how to mix it, what materials are best to use with it, and even how to dye it using natural pigments.
