About
This is a true painter’s lecture!
Originally presented for the Intermediate Painting students at The FAA campus in Florence, in it Tom Richards explores the concept of values, and looks at artworks in monochrome or in black and white.
From 15th century frescoes to portraits by Rembrandt and Sargent, one of the most valuable tools in a painter’s arsenal is a strong understanding of value. During the lecture Tom takes us through a variety of paintings and describes how value – and not only color – is used to construct a successful image.
